This is your big day, and the music selections should reflect your taste, but keep in mind that the reception is also a celebration for all of your guests. Try to include a mix of songs for all age groups that might be attending. Be aware that some songs, while great to listen to, are not great to dance to. Keep in mind that your guests will want to request some songs, and most of all, that you have a professional DJ who is at his best when he is able to read the crowd, and keep the dance floor full. To put it simply, your main goal should be to have your guests leaving your event talking about how much fun they had! Below are some general suggestions for a comfortable play list based on length of reception.
Example : 4 hour reception with the traditional schedule
Total hours - 4 hours
Cocktails - 1 hour - Choose up to 10 appropriate songs
Introductions /
special dances - ½ hour
Dinner - 1 hour - Choose up to 10 appropriate songs
(You can designate songs for dinner and/or cocktail hour by using the Note column next to each song on our online music planner. )
Cake cutting
Garter/Bouquet - ½ hour
This leaves about 1- 1 1/2 hours of actual party time which with an average song length of 4 minutes = 15 - 20 songs
Also try to keep your do not play list as short as possible , (we recommend no more than 10 songs) or allow your DJ to play songs on that list if requested by your guests - it always happens!
Let's work together to make it a night to remember
